    The Tippecanoe Valley Viking Guard finished in first place in two events Sept. 11.

The group took top honors in Class B competition in the Whitko Symphony of Music with a score of 55. Its score of 47.7 was good enough for first-place honors the same day in Bremen. The group won the caption awards for best percussion, best marching, best color guard and best general effect.

    LAPORTE - The trophy case for girls' athletics at Warsaw Community High School is almost overflowing, and now, for the first times, the swimming team has added to the collection.

Coach Bonnie Grimble's Tigers took home their first trophy ever here Saturday by winning the eight-team LaPorte Invitational.

    Marine Corporal Harold G. Jefferies, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Jefferies, Tippecanoe, is shown receiving an individual trophy from Maj. Gen. George F. Good Jr., commanding general, Second Marine division, as a member of the Tenth Regiment's softball team, which won the division championship at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

    The Prairie Farmer, a prominent farm paper, gave a large state picnic today at Monticello. Among those who attended were: Mr. and Mrs. Edward E. Kinsey, of Claypool; Mrs. Lawrence Detterman and son, H.C. Kelly, A.J. Wiltrout, Harl T. Neal and Edward Hibschman, of Warsaw.
