    Former North Webster banker Homer Shoop recently attained Grand Master status in the North American Contract Bridge League. Shoop is only the 93rd Grand Master in the history of the League. He is the first Grand Master in District 25, which comprises northern Indiana, Illinois, western Kentucky and eastern Missouri. Grand Master status is achieved by winning 10,000 points in league play.

    Timely home runs by Keith Ring and Bob Kline powered Walnut Creek to a 7-4 victory over Free Methodist in the championship game of the Church League Slow Pitch softball double elimination tournament.

Winning pitcher for Walnut Creek was Glenn Moorehead.

September 15 1950

    Bob Stauffer, North Manchester, and a summer resident of Winona Lake, won the golf championship of the Tippecanoe Lake Country Club by defeating John Plank, Goshen, 6 and 5, in the title match.

Plank was one-up at the end of 18 holes, but could not cope with the sub-par golf shot by Stauffer during the second 18. Stauffer was four under par when the match ended on the 13th hole, and he finished out the round with a 68.

    A 56-pound watermelon sent by his cousin from Lawrenceville, Ill., to John Calvert, Warsaw, is on display in the Robinson Brothers Meat Market here.
