    Local artist Barbara Fuson received a merit award for her mixed media painting "Nocturnal Grove" at the Chesterton Art Comp '94.

Fuson, whose home studio is at Lake Wawasee, also was awarded first place in watercolor at the Honeywell Five-County juried art show in Wabash.

    At the recent father-son banquet at the Packerton Free Will Baptist Church, the Rev. Chad Burkhart was honored as the Father of the Year.

The Rev. Burkhart of Claypool, is 52 years old and is pastor of Packerton Free Will Baptist Church, where he has been for the past 25 years.

September 15 1954

    John Herrman, of North Webster, district governor of Lions International, presented awards to seven members of the Leesburg Lions Club for having perfect attendance records for the past ten years. Members receiving awards are Thomas Orn, Chris Kammerer, Kenneth Hartman, Edward Good, Robert Bishop, Harry Beatty and Herschel Albert.

    Cary Groninger, member of the Warsaw High School stock judging team, won a $25 trip to the International Stock Show by placing first in the northern section of the state in the contest held last week at the state fair.
