    Leslie Diane Miller, daughter of Robert and Margret Miller, has been pledged to the Epsilon Beta chapter of Alpha Phi Sorority at Butler University.

Miller is a freshman accounting major. She is a graduate of Tippecanoe Valley High School.

September 14 1948

    Etna Green High School won its initial softball game of the season, defeating Mentone by a score of 3 to 1. Tony Hight, Etna Green pitcher, whiffed three Bulldogs and won his own contest by blasting a long triple in the fifth inning. Carl Hyndman formed the other half of the Etna Green battery.

    Warsaw homes tonight will be lighted with electricity furnished by water power from Goshen.

The water power part of the Interstate Public Service Company plant, Goshen, has been completed and rebuilt and today it was connected up with the line to Warsaw. September 15 10 Years Ago A brilliant first-quarter effort has landed Triton's Erik Sechrist Player of the Week honors. The award, which is sponsored by the Times-Union sports staff, is in its third week. Sechrist joins Tippecanoe Valley's Dale Cave as the only winner of the award. 25 Years Ago Principal Clayton J. Smith has announced that two students at Warsaw Community High School have been named semifinalists in the 1974 National Merit Scholarship Program. The students are Margaret McIlroy, daughter of Mary Jane Sprong, 1202 E. Market St., and Gregory Nicholls, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Nicholls, 2106 Brookview, both in Warsaw. 50 Years Ago Josephine Creighton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hobart Creighton, Rt. 5, will receive the traditional double-bar insignia of a junior in the Indiana University training school for nurses, during a ceremony being held Sept. 14 at the nurses' garden at the Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis. 75 Years Ago Harding memorial postage stamps, the two-cent denomination, have been placed on sale at the Warsaw post office. About 30,000 of the new issue of stamps were received by Postmaster Kilmer. September 16 10 Years Ago Steve Shand, a seven-year member of the Mentone Fire Department, was named county "Fireman of the Year" Thursday night at the 42nd annual fireman's fish fry. Also honored for outstanding service was James "Gooney" McClinton of the Syracuse department. McClinton received the service award. 25 Years Ago Appointment of Norm Hagg as managing editor of the Times-Union was announced today by Editor Curtis Garber. Hagg has been with this newspaper for the past 10 years. He started as a night newsman for Radio Stations WRSW AM-FM in August 1963, and joined the newspaper full-time as a sports writer and city reporter the next year. He soon became sports editor and has been city editor the past six years. 50 Years Ago John R. Cox, Claypool, was awarded the degree of master of business administration by the University of Chicago, Chicago, Ill., at the 234th convocation held recently at Rockefeller Memorial chapel there. There were 547 graduates in the class. 75 Years Ago A Kosciusko county farmer this morning brought a live cow to the local market in the rear of a Ford touring car.
