September 13 1993

    Bob Schultz of Warsaw caught a 13-1/2-pound channel catfish Wednesday morning while fishing at Pike Lake. Schultz, who snagged the cat using shad guts for bait, also reeled in an 11-pounder. The big catch was made about 5:30 a.m.

September 13 1978

    Emerson Ward was honored recently by members of the Lakeland Child Evangelism Fellowship at a banquet at the International Friendship House in Winona Lake. Ward, who has served on the board of directors for the past 30 years and is the only remaining charter member on the board, was presented a plaque by Dr. Norman Uphouse, chairman of the fellowship board.

September 13 1953

    Cpl. Lawrence Bailey, 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. Grover Bailey, on near Packerton, surprised his parents Monday night when he arrived unannounced at about 10:30 p.m.

Bailey, who spent two years and eight months in communist prisoner of war camps, flew from San Francisco, Calif., to Camp Atterbury, took a bus to Plymouth and then a taxi to his home, a mile and half north of Packerton.

    Helen Rapp was pledged to the Alpha Chi Omega sorority at Purdue Friday. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rapp, of Winona Lake, and a graduate of the Warsaw High School with the class of 1928.
