September 13 1994

    Marine Cpl. Eric Kimmel, son of Marilyn Kimmel, of Rochester, recently received the Marine Corps good conduct medal.

The medal recognizes Kimmel's honest and faithful service during a three-year period. To earn it, Kimmel achieved and maintained a satisfactory level of performance and an unblemished conduct record for the entire period.

    Place winners in the recent Muscular Dystrophy Walk-A-Thon were B.J. Ross, Mentone, trophy winner for most donations collected; Heather Gaerte, Warsaw, first place winner of a 10-speed bicycle; Kathy Blocher, Warsaw, second place, winner of a Jerry Lewis watch; and James Oden, Mentone, third place; John Nichols, Warsaw, fourth place; and Ellen Oden, Mentone, fifth place, winners of T-shirts.

September 13 1954

    Elener Norris, of Mentone, was one of five state 4-H home economics club members awarded a $100 cash scholarship to the college of her choice in the 4-H home economics scholarship contest held during the state fair this week at Indianapolis.

The scholarship was awarded on the basis of high school grades and 4-H home economics achievement records.

September 13 1929

    Special permits to drive autos are now necessary for school children between ages of 14 and 16 years. Permit applications may be obtained at the Henderson & Parker store and are issued by the Warsaw police. Only four were issued this morning. All must have permits or they will not be allowed to drive between their homes and the schools.
