Warsaw volunteer firefighters recently ended a successful summer waterball season, taking first-place trophies in competitions during Winona Lake Days, Silver Lake Days, Pierceton Days and North Manchester Days. Firefighters combined hose and stream practice with a lot of fun along the way. Volunteers are Travis Rowland, Dave Rapp, Jim Brumfield, Brooks Huffer, Troy Miller and Todd Deaton.
Among the seven area winners who recently won in the first annual Indiana Soil Conservation Farmer-of-the-Year Awards program, recognizing farmers doing an outstanding job with conservation farming, was Wayne Bessinger, Bourbon, Area I.
Paul Johnson, of South Whitley, became a hole-in-one golfer Saturday when he scored an ace on the 135-yard sixth hole at the Wawasee golf course. He was playing in a foursome which included Ronnie Dunham, of Columbia City, Thomas Spencer, a golf professional from Lake Papakeechie, and Duane Hefty, of South Whitley.
Members of the local chapter of the Lambda Chi Omega sorority were entertained Friday evening with a muskmelon and watermelon feed by Juanita Fawley at the melon farm of her father, Roy Fawley, just west of Warsaw.
