    Kimberly Rose of Pierceton was awarded third place recently in the 1996 Adult Learners Essay Contest.

Rose's essay was titled "A Mother's Turning Point, A Lesson From My Children." In it, she told how she quit school at a young age and got married and had children. As her children got into high school, she faced the dilemma of telling them the importance of graduating when she had not done so. She went back to school at the Adult Learning Center in Warsaw.

    When Manager Joe Felke set up the professional football contest in the Times-Union's Spotlight entertainment tabloid nearly two years ago, he thought he had a system designed where there would never be a tie among entrants, but last week it happened. Dale Truex and Mike Ousley, both of Warsaw, missed two picks each and in the "foolproof" tie breaker, both selected Plymouth to beat Warsaw by the identical score of 21-7. So, Dale and Mike will each receive a $25 cash prize.

October 9 1956

    The 16-voice chorus of the Warsaw American Legion auxiliary recently was presented the "Beryl Phillips Award" in recognition of outstanding work as a choral group.

This is the first year in the history of competition at the American Legion state convention that an auxiliary vocal unit has won first in the three divisions - trio, quartet, chorus.

October 9 1931

    Mr. and Mrs. Del Meredith will motor Saturday morning to West Lafayette, where they will visit their son, Frank, at Purdue University. Saturday is "Dad's" day at the university. They will attend the Illinois-Purdue football game Saturday afternoon and will return home Sunday evening.
