    BOURBON - "I'm too happy to cry!"

That was the reaction of Brooke Newcomb after being named the 1991 Triton Jr. Miss/Young Woman of the Year Saturday night. Newcomb is the daughter of Bill and Barbara Newcomb, 530 S. Main St., Bourbon.

October 31 1975

    FT. BRAGG, N.C. - Army Specialist 5 Melvin E. Stutzman, son of Eli L. Stutzman, Rt. 1, Bourbon, is undergoing six weeks of arctic training at Ft. Wainwright, Alaska.

Spec. Stutzman and approximately 500 paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C., made a parachute jump into Ft. Wainwright to begin the training, which included mountain and cold weather survival techniques. He is a rifleman in Company D, 1st Infantry of the division's 325th infantry here.

    Work has been started on the new post office building in Bourbon. The building will be 28 feet wide and 58 feet long. The new post office is expected to be ready in time for the Christmas rush.

    One pumpkin weighing 58 pounds and many tipping the scales at from 10 to 25 pounds have just been harvested by Joseph Ulrey, farmer of near North Manchester.
