    BOURBON - Diane Watkins was crowned the 1995 Triton Junior Miss Saturday night. The 17-year-old daughter of Kathy and Loyd Watkins lives with her parents at 8581 Apple Road, Bourbon.

Diane also won the fitness portion of the scholarship program.

October 30 1979

    DETROIT, Mich. - For the second consecutive year, a Northern Indiana Public Service Co. employee has received the American Gas Association's Meritorious Service Award for a life-saving act.

David C. Manning, of Warsaw, a serviceman in the utility's Warsaw district, was presented the award for saving the life of a 2-year-old boy while on an after-hours service call Sept. 27, 1978, using cardiopulmonary resuscitation learned during NIPSCO safety training meetings.

50 Years Ago

October 30 1954

    Seventy-two people from Indiana attended the 50th anniversary convention of postmaster held in Philadelphia, Pa. Those from Kosciusko County who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Eherenman, Burket, and Blanche Anglin, Leesburg.

October 30 1929

    Members of the Burket community gathered at the Burket community hall for an annual Hallowe'en affair. A beauty contest was one of the main features of the evening, Helen Coplin winning the prize. Harley Rager was awarded the prize for being the best masked.
