October 28 1994

    First Baptist Church of Warsaw held a ground- breaking ceremony Oct. 16 for a new location on Patterson Road, north of U.S. 30. The church purchased 20 acres of land from the Patterson estate in 1986.

The church was founded on Jan. 11, 1851. Representatives of Clear Creek, Oswego, Monoquet and Yellow Creek Baptist churches met in council in Warsaw and organized the Baptist Church of Warsaw. Ten people signed the original charter.

    Three students from Warsaw Community High School's Choral Department have been selected as members of the All-State Honors Choir, which will sing for the State Music Teachers Convention to be held in Indianapolis.

Selected from more than 80 contestants from northern Indiana were Kevin Hoenie, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hoenie; Tina Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Miller; and Sabrina Handgen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Handgen, all of Warsaw.

    Don Truex, who was a fine distance runner during his sophomore and junior years at Warsaw High School but had to follow the shadows of his brother, Max's footsteps, is off to a good start in this, his senior year, as he determines to come into his own now that Max has graduated.

Yesterday evening Don sloshed through rain and mud over the Municipal Golf Course at Peru to win the individual championship in the Central conference cross-country meet with a time of 9:46.

    Laura Patton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Patton, 317 N. Union St., was recently elected to membership in the Theacallosion Literary Society of Indiana Central College, Indianapolis.
