    Marine Pfc. Timothy Miller, son of Tobias and Jo Ann Miller, Nappanee, recently completed the basic assault amphibian crewman's course.

During the course with Schools Battalion, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, Calif., students prepare for assignment to assault amphibian units where assault vehicles are used to transport troops and supplies from ship to beachhead for subsequent operations ashore.

    Participating in the Western Michigan Open Tae Kwon Do tournament two local students captured third place trophies in two separate divisions. Bob Walls, 33, of 611 W. Winona Ave., Warsaw, captured third place in white belt free fighting, and Jerry McClellend, 22, Rt. 1, Warsaw, was awarded third place in brown belt forms competition.

    Thomas Jackson, Warsaw, has been selected as sports editor of the 1953 Orient, the senior annual, at Ball State Teachers College, Muncie. Jackson, a junior, is also a member of Theta Chi, national social fraternity, Geography Club, Commerce Club and the Elliott Hall Council. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L.F. Jackson.

    Mrs. James Nine brought to The Times office a portion of a raspberry bush which is bearing again this year. These genial October days are also responsible for a second growth of other varieties of fruit.
