Nine-year-old Kara Randall, daughter of Martin and Shelly Randall of Hoffman Lake, was the winner of a 175-pound pumpkin in a drawing at Wade's Farm Market, U.S. 30 west of Warsaw. The drawing took place Oct. 14 at the conclusion of the market's apple and pumpkin fest.
Lance Clay moved away from a one-up lead after 18 holes and went on to defeat Bill Harvout, 3-1, in the annual Rozella Ford Club Handicap tournament. Clay advanced to three-up after 27 holes in the 36 hole final.
Robert D. Ferverda, who has completed his boot training at San Diego, Calif., left via air for duty in Japan. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Ferverda, Leesburg, and a 1950 graduate of the Leesburg High School.
En route by motor to their winter home at St. Paul, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Eugene "Bubbles" Hargrave, and son, Bubbles Junior, were in Warsaw visiting friends of the now famous Cincinnati Red baseball catcher. "Bubbles" has been barn-storming since the National League season closed and visiting at his native town of New Haven and Fort Wayne. He stopped off here, where he got his baseball start in 1910 with the Warsaw Maroons, and visited his many friends here. He closed the season with a batting average of .302 for 84 games after being out two months with a broken hand early in the season.
