    Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Gerald Miller, son of Harv and Juanita Miller of Warsaw, is deploying to Somalia with air Anti-Submarine Squadron 29. Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego, embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.

Miller, a 1980 Graduate of Warsaw Community High School, joined the Navy in April 1991.

    Navy Aviation Boatswaim's Mate Airman Recruit John D. Sicks, son of Daniels Sicks, of North Webster, has reported for duty aboard the USS Kitty Hawk (CV63), San Diego.

He joined the Navy in February 1978.

October 24 1953

    Jim Miner, ace motorboat racer from Syracuse, captured first place Sunday in the AU class of the state championship races at Madison, Ind.

It was reported that Miner's winning time was only six-tenths of a mile short of the national record. The young Syracuse race boat operator has competed in many events this years, including a national outboard race in which he placed second.

    H.F. Hatfield, 80, of Palestine, employed continuously for 40 years at the E.E. Gaskill sawmill at Burket, enjoyed his first airplane ridge here on Saturday when Raymond Zimmer took him into the air for a ride above Warsaw. The elder Hatfield is active and spry and never misses a day's work.
