Jason Nichols of Warsaw recently was chosen as the first recipient of the Warsaw Bowling Association Scholarship. Nichols, the son of Lee and Fran Nichols, is currently attending Vincennes University and majoring in bowling center management.
Members of the Warsaw Community High School badminton team winning trophies at the state tourney last weekend were singles champ, Chanda Kline and doubles winners, Rose Long and Vicky Hatcher. They are coached by Linda Wickstrom. Other team members are Tracie Klopenstein, Leona Bruce, Paula Miller and Anita Folk.
Sasha Ann Hire, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Millard Hire, Syracuse, and a sophomore in the Oberlin College conservatory of music, will lead the college marching band in its field maneuvers this season. With 14 years of baton experience, Hire earned 10 state championships in Indiana, has 35 medals and nine trophies to attest her national and international American Legion championships, and uses, in addition to the usual twirling batons, lighted, fired and flag batons.
Price war between Warsaw gasoline filling stations resulted in the announcement of a reduction to 12 cents plus 3 cents war tax per gallon by the Polk Oil Co. stations where Marland gasoline is sold and also by the Standard Oil stations. The Polk Company announced their cut was absorbed by the local company to meet competition and was not a general Marland gas reduction.
