    Students at Harrison Elementary recently completed the candy bar sale, which is the school's major fundraiser each year.

Top winners were Rachel Quillen, who won the CD stereo, and Hope Lauster, who won a 15-speed bike.

October 20 1981

    Larry Lipply, of Silver Lake, captured a fifth-place ribbon and the first-place junior award in the aged cow class during the Central National Guernsey Show at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wis., recently.


50 Years Ago

October 20 1956

    Two Syracuse sisters placed in a recent twirling contest held at LaPorte. Thirteen-year-old Sharon Jean Nordman, won fourth place honors and Kay, 11, won a third in the beginners' division and sixth in advanced twirling. An eighth-grader, Sharon will twirl with the Syracuse band this school year. Both girls take lessons of Bea Bachman, Syracuse drum major.

October 20 1931

    Vernon and Stuart VanDyke, sons of Mr. and Mrs. I.C. VanDyke, of Winona Lake, have been named leaders of their respective classes at Manchester College. Vernon, who holds a seat on the school's council and court, was elected president of the junior class and Stuart was named president of the freshman class.
