    The Town & Country Garden Club of Warsaw has announced the winners of the annual Green Thumb Award.

Recipient of the 1992 Green Thumb Award in the commercial division is Burger King, Market Place, and the residential winner is Arlene Caldwell, Leesburg.

October 19 1977

    Diana Lozano, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Lozano, Milford, was crowned Wawasee High School's Homecoming Queen for 1977 during festivities at the halftime of the football game with Concord Friday. Bryan Smith, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Smith, Syracuse, was selected as the Homecoming King.

    Max Stackhouse, son of the Rev. and Mrs. Dale Stackhouse, South High Street, will enjoy the distinction of being chairman of the military affairs division and official delegate from Warsaw at the Purdue debaters conference Dec. 5 and 6, it was announced today by Mrs. Herbert Petrie, director of speech activities at Warsaw High School.

Ruth Ann Hauth, Joel Haney, Rose LaFollette and Shirley Wolfe, of Warsaw, will attend as alternate delegates.

October 19 1927

    Isaac D. Ulrey, accompanied by Mrs. Ulrey, and whose home is just west of Claypool, called at this office on Wednesday. Mr. Ulrey brought with him a copy of the double holiday number of "The Northern Indianian,"printed Dec. 28, 1878, making the issue 49 years old this December.

In those days The Indianian was what was known as a "blanket sheet" weekly paper of four pages, 10 columns to the page, with the columns 28 inches long.
