    September's high game and high series bowling winners at Holiday Bowl have been announced. Roger Hyde turned in the month's high game with a 299. Barb Brown had both the high game (221) and high series (575) for women. Glen Ransbottom Jr. had the men's high series for the month with a 775.

October 17 1975

    Democrat mayoralty candidate H. Dale Tucker promised to take his campaign to the people - and he has done just that.

The former school board president is literally going door-to-door in his bid for the mayor's chair. "Tuck" says he has knocked on more than half of the doors in town and will continue his walking campaign until election day. "I didn't realize there were so many dogs in the city," Tucker said. "If they were all registered Democrats and would vote for me Nov. 4, I'd be in," the insurance man-realtor commented.

October 17 1950

    Shirley Engle, Warsaw, high school senior, was elected district parliamentarian at the meeting of Future Homemakers of American held at William Wirt High School in Gary. Others from the Warsaw chapter who attended were: Betty Biltz, president, Sue Shaffer, Sue Clingenpeel, Rose Ellen McClung, Garnett Hyde and Norma Fawley. They were accompanied by their chapter mother, Mrs. William Biltz, and chapter adviser, Mrs. Charles Reece.

October 17 1925

    What is probably a world's record for continuous school attendance without absence or tardiness is held by Mrs. Ray Strayer, nee Melba Shoemaker, of Claypool. She holds 12 yearly honor certificates for perfect attendance.

Mrs. Strayer attended school 13 terms. The only interruption in her record came in the last weeks of her senior year when she was taken ill with mumps and was forced to miss a few days. She attended Claypool schools.
