Longtime Winona Lake resident Art Chaney will celebrate his 85th birthday Sunday. Although his stride may not be as long as it was, Chaney still maintains a rigorous exercise and fitness program and keeps himself busy writing the Times-Union column, Cousin Clem.
Jerry Laurien, 31, of 401 W. Center St., Warsaw, has been promoted from probationary status with the Warsaw Police Department to a full-time patrolman retroactive to Sept. 16.
Theater-goers will be especially thrilled Friday night at the grand opening of the elaborate and new Lake Theater in downtown Warsaw. The premiere will be complete with ribbon-cutting by the mayor, Homer "Bush" Rice. A special radio broadcast from the sidewalk under the mammoth Lake marquee will be attended by many dignitaries.
Several hundred persons this afternoon watched Pennsylvania railway engineers slide the new viaduct settle bridge under the tracks at the Winona-Warsaw road entrance of Winona. The new bridge was placed in position and moved in four sections under the railway tracks to eliminate the dangerous support posts heretofore in the highway center. Traffic was delayed but 45 minutes by the change. Moving the bridge was a feat of unusual engineering skill.
