    Jon E. Newcomb, a native of Burket, has joined the law firm of R. Alexis Clarke, at 121 N. Center St., Bremen. Newcomb, a 1972 graduate of Indiana University Law School, Bloomington, was admitted to the practice of law before the Indiana

Supreme Court in ceremonies at Indianapolis. 60 Years Ago The annual Stephenson style show of fall fashions was attended by many spectators at the Kosciusko County fair. Thirteen high school queens chosen as the loveliest from the high schools of the county participated in the exhibition of fall fashions. 75 Years Ago Warsaw is the best ice cream-consuming city of 5,000 to 10,000 population in the middle west, with the exception of Delaware and Ohio, according to John Cartwright, who with his wife and an employee, conducted three ice cream brick stands at the Kosciusko County free street fair. Oct. 2 10 Years Ago The Grossnickle Eye Center announces the opening of its new in-office surgery center. The center. attached to the present office at 2251 Dubois Drive, is the first of its kind in the area. 25 Years Ago The newest program to be initiated at Cardinal Center will be presented to the general public on Oct. 11, according to Director Howard Wilson. The unique Cardinal Boutique is both a gift shop and a thrift shop. 60 Years Ago Hiram A. Berkey of Warsaw was announced Saturday as one of the 10 winners in the "oldest washer" contest sponsored by the local Gamble store. His reward is to receive a new 1937 Coronado electric washer. 75 Years Ago Seventy-eight pupils are attending the Clunette grade school this fall. Charles Christian is principal. His corps of teachers include Miss Dorothy Rosbrugh, Miss Devere Brant and Miss Lois Fields. Doc Roose, "mayor of Clunette," is again the popular janitor. Oct. 3 10 Years Ago Jenny Haines and Krista Hanft were named homecoming co-queens at Warsaw Community High School. Senior football player Todd Waikel was named the king. The parents are David and Babs Haines, Don and Mary Hanft, and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Waikel. 25 Years Ago Mrs. Richard (Becky) Bodine, wife of the Indiana Democratic lieutenant governor candidate, will appear at a Kosciusko County Women's Democratic organization tea to be held in the Pierceton community building on Sunday. 60 Years Ago Robert Parker, Silver Lake, and Charles Nine, Warsaw, won the greased pig catching contest staged by Herbert Robinson, of Warsaw. 75 Years Ago Rapid progress is being made on the construction of "The New Barbee," a large hotel being erected just south of the connecting stream of water between Big Barbee Lake and Little Barbee Lake. Oct. 4 10 Years Ago The opening of bids for the demolition of the Murphy Medical Center at Warsaw's Board of Public Works and Safety meeting prompted Mayor Jeff Plank to schedule an executive session with the contractors next week. A change in specifications has resulted in "complicated" bids which require further explanation to Plank and council members. 25 Years Ago Larry Nellans, C.R.B., president of Larry Nellans Company, Realtors, was a guest speaker at the 59th annual convention of the Indiana Real Estate Association held recently at French Lick. Nellans spoke on successful sales techniques and the application of the videotape recorder in the real estate industry. 60 Years Ago Donald Phillips, 11th U.S. Infantry at Fort Benjamin Harrison, has been promoted to corporal. Corporal Phillips has served two years. He is son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Phillips, 427 S. High St. 75 Years Ago W. M. Dickerson is constructing an air-tight cement block ice house at Oswego. The structure will be 8 feet under ground and 8 feet above ground. The dimensions are 20 feet by 18 feet. The only wood used in the structure is that making up the rafters.
