    Spec. Chris E. Yates has been decorated with the Army Achievement Medal.

The medal is awarded to soldiers for meritorious service, acts of courage or other outstanding accomplishments. Yates is an armor crew member at Conn Barracks, Scheinfurt, Germany. He is the son of Kathy Yates, Warsaw. The specialist is a 1988 graduate of Warsaw Community High School.

    A new local celebrity was born when Jerry Lemmon, son of Mrs. Jean Lemmon, Rt. 1, North Webster, had his picture printed in the Boston Globe, one of the leading newspapers in the country. Lemmon is a student at Berklee College of Music.

November 6 1950

    Nellie Newell and Fancheon Sanson, seniors, were elected varsity yell leaders for the 1950-51 basketball season by the South Whitley High School student body in a special pep session. Other candidates for yell leaders were: Georgia Faye Able and Dick Walters, Janet Harley and Rosie Sylvester, and Pat Johnson and JoAnne Huffman.

    In the Mentone Gazette the manager, C.W. Krathwohl, announced that, owing to the lack of advertising and nonsupport of the businessmen, the newspaper plant would be moved to Claypool, where the manager has opened negotiations for establishing a paper, and expects to print both papers at the Claypool plant.
