Penguin Point recently sponsored a pumpkin decorating contest for students from area schools. David Keevan won the grand prize of $100 for his pumpkin. Winners from each school, who received $50 savings bonds for their creative efforts, are Ashley Haussmann, Johnnie Collins, Joe Anuta, Kristy Blauser, Blake Dirico, Linnia Fitzpatrick, Jesse Hawk, Andrew Robinson and Lauren Witzky.
Wawasee senior Lorene Spearman was granted another honor in her outstanding high school career by being named for the second time to the Northern Lakes Conference volleyball first team.
One of the youngest Halloweeners reported in the Leesburg community was 16-month-old "Butchy" Bennett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bennett. In costume and mask, the toddler couldn't say "Trick or Treat" real clearly but the threat was lettered on a placard over his chest. Delighted with the orange he received early on his rounds, Butchy could shout "ball" as he rolled the fruit on the floor of other neighborhood homes where he called.
The paving of highway No. 30 between Warsaw and Plymouth has now been completed, but the road will not be formally opened for about three weeks, according to an announcement made Saturday. Work still is progressing on the bridge over the Tippecanoe River west of Warsaw. At this point here is now a one-fourth-mile detour.
