    At this time a year ago, Warsaw freshman Stephanie Ellis was an eighth-grade student at Lakeview Middle School.

Today, Ellis is preparing to showcase her diving talent at the state finals after a second-place finish in the Warsaw Sectional in the Warsaw Community Pool at WCHS.

November 3 1978

    City Police Detective Sgt. Samie Brown was congratulated after being named "1978 Police Officer of the Year" by the Warsaw Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126. Brown, first recipient of what will become an annual award, was chosen for the honor by a committee. Post Commander John Dove presented the award.

    Jerry L. Wyman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Wyman, Warsaw, is serving aboard the newly converted radar picket submarine USS Rock, recommissioned Oct. 12 at the Philadelphia naval shipyard.

Originally commissioned 10 years ago, the new boat has been lengthened by 30 feet, will displace nearly 2,500 tons and has been thoroughly modernized at a cost of $6 million. A new submarine of this type would mean an outlay of $15 million.

    NORTH MANCHESTER - It's an old story that while the cat's away the mice will play, and while John Isenbarger, county Democratic chairman, was over in the southern part of the county looking after the democracy of the south-enders, someone turned his office into a Republican establishment. All through the campaign, and even before the national convention, pictures of Smith and Dailey have graced the Isenbarger window. But this morning it was all Hoover and Leslie. Someone with a liberal supply of good sticky paste had plastered these pictures on the outside of the glass to cover the Democratic pictures.
