    Tony Robinson and other competitors at Saturday's Pumpkin Hurl in Warsaw learned one thing: Pumpkins can fly just fine in frigid, wind-whipped temperatures.

Robinson and his father, Leon, were the grand-prize winners in the first local Pumpkin Hurl, sponsored by Bowen Center and a handful of other companies. The father-son combo created a mechanical contraption that flung a pumpkin 170 feet, 9 inches.

    Five-year service recognition pins were awarded to qualifying K-Mart employees by store manager G.R. Rinehart recently. They are Mindy Lucas, Vina Cleveland, Neva Harris, Donna Miller, Faith Petrosky, Mary Alley, James Johnson, Diane Hogan, Isletta Carwile, Mary Jo Valentine, Karen Slone, Dawn Jones and Belia Moran.

November 3 1956

    Three Kosciusko County men, employees who have completed 25 years of continuous service with the Northern Indiana Public Service Co. this year, received special recognition.

The three from this county who received the 25-year awards were Noble D. Myers, Syracuse, and Clarence Bonewitz and Stanley W. Evans, both of Warsaw.

November 3 1931

    Thelma Stickler, pupil at West Wayne School, was winner of the silver medal oratorical contest held Monday evening. A class of eight girls took part. All were members of the seventh and eighth grades of the school.
