U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar announced the county winners of the Dick Lugar Youth Essay Contest.

Winners from Kosciusko County were Kurt Kammerer and Jessica Lieffring, both Lakeview Middle School students.

Missy Herndon of the Kosciusko Community YMCA swimming team set a Huntington Invitational meet record in winning the 50 butterfly in the 11-12 age group last weekend.

She also was third in both the 100 freestyle and 200 individual medley.

Mary Alice Leader, of Bourbon, was elected state corresponding secretary of the Future Teachers of America at a meeting of FTA clubs held at Indianapolis.

Other FTA members attending the Indianapolis meeting from Bourbon were Ronda Huffer, Carolyn Schaetzle, Wanda Hall, Kent Hennon, Pat Banic, Barbara Wagoner and Suzie Stewart.

Four candidates, Mrs. Roller Kleckner, Mrs. Earl Barringer and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sanders, were initiated into Warsaw Chapter No. 88 Order of the Eastern Star at a meeting held Tuesday evening.
