    Jill Sommers, of Silver Lake, was crowned the 1993-94 Miss American Angus at the North American Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Ky. Sommers' mother, Sharon, was the first Miss American Angus 25 years ago.

    Syracuse Marshal Ron Robinson, 31, will be the new sheriff's department captain on Jan. 1 when sheriff-elect Al Rovenstine, of Atwood, takes office.

Robinson, a former member of the sheriff's department, has been a police officer at Syracuse since November of 1974 and was appointed marshall in May of 1975. Robinson will be the highest appointed officer of the sheriff's department.

    Norman Rohrer, of Winona Lake, attended homecoming at Wheaton (Ill.) College the weekend of Oct. 31. Rohrer graduated from Wheaton in 1953.

    Helen Melick, of South Bend, and formerly of Warsaw, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.A. Melick, of this city, won $500 in a popularity contest which ended last night in South Bend with a Mardi Gras at the Palais Royale. Melick represented the Standard Oil Co. and was given the choice of $500 or a trip to Paris. She chose the $500.
