    BOURBON - Weeks of practice and a day full of activities have paid off for Triton's Patricia "Patti" Bates, who was crowned 1993 Triton Young Woman of the Year during Saturday night's competition at the high school.

Bates, 18, is the daughter of Jay F. and Sue A. Bates, Bourbon. She plans to attend Purdue University next fall, majoring in civil engineering.

    Warsaw Community High School will have a new principal next year.

Clayton J. Smith, chief administrator of the school for the past nine years, will retire after 35 years of service as a teacher and administrator in the public schools next June.

    Mrs. Ward Haney entertained Sunday at the Haney home, in Prairie Township, in celebration of the eighth birthday of her son, Bob. Games and contests, conducted by Mrs. Maydean Dorsey, were enjoyed by the children, and refreshments were served. The guests included Maureen Kneeland, Raymond Haney, Devon Hapner, Jenny Lou Lee, Frank Pfeiffer, Bill Haney, Mike Creighton, Ray Miner, June Haney, Charles Williams, Judy Haney, Janice Yeiter and Danny Cormany, also Melvin Hissong and Mrs. Mabel Watkins.

    Dr. F.C. Tucker, Claypool, recently returned from Purdue University, where he completed a course of special studies in veterinary science. Due to the rapid changing veterinary methods, Dr. Tucker took special work in chicken diseases, fitting himself to give better service to his poultry clients.
