A drought-stricken farmer in Virginia who was appreciative of the hay he received from farmers in Kosciusko and LaGrange Counties this summer has given an old threshing machine that had been stored in his barn since 1948 to a Amish or Mennonite family that still uses this type of equipment. Brothers Garry and Max Tom handled much of the hay relief effort in this area.
Warsaw varsity debaters Greg Folk, Mark Bontrager, Alan Johnson and Mike Johnson placed fifth at the annual debate tournament held on Saturday. They defeated teams from Marion-Mishawaka, South Bend Clay and South Bend John Adams.
Freeland Phillips, 1226 East Main Street, will serve next year as president of the Pioneer Trails Area of Boy Scouts of America. He was elected Monday evening at a dinner meeting of the area council held at the Westminster Hotel at Winona Lake.
About 500 people were served at dinner at the Eagles' home, where they gave their annual Thanksgiving dinner and dance. Dinner was served, tables were cleared from the ball room and dancing was enjoyed until a late hour. The Elks orchestra furnished the music.
