Nearly four years after her death, Blanche Byrer's life-long dream has come true and she's probably smiling down from the heavens as a result. It took some time, but newly remodeled "Byrer Manor," located on a portion of the 200-acre farm at county roads 650N and 750W, has become a home for wayward girls, as outlined in Byrer's will.
Christine Snyder and Marcia Bartel will present a comedy skit at the annual fall festival presented by the choral department at Warsaw Community High School. With bare feet and stubbed toes, the girls will present songs from the hill country, blues and spirituals.
Announcement has been made this week that Mrs. Ralph Houghten, of Etna Green, had submitted the winning entry in the "Slogan for Nappanee" contest, sponsored by the Nappanee Association of Commerce. She was awarded $100 for the following entry "Large Enough to Serve You, Small Enough to Know You."
The surface of Cook and Arthur streets is to be greatly improved in the near future, Street Commissioner Sid Aker having been authorized by the city council Monday evening to give both thoroughfares a coating of gravel and dirt to be procured from the gravel pit at Winona Lake, costing several hundred dollars.
