    A photo of Leesburg's Beth Hearn, 14, daughter of Delores and Steve Hearn, appeared in the "Faces in the Crowd" section in the Nov. 2 edition of Sports Illustrated. She received recognition after winning 19 of her first 20 outboard powerboat races this season, and captured national titles in both the J-Stock Hydro and the J-Stock Runabout classes at the Stock Outboard powerboat championships in Hinton, W.Va.

Nov. 14 1972

    Wawasee High School students Steve Beer and Jerry Meier took top honors at the 1972 state soil judging contest sponsored by Purdue University extension. Beer was the high-scoring individual for the entire contest with a total of 290 points out of a possible 310. Meier places second in the individual scoring.

Nov. 14 1947

    The Army football team, coaches, trainers and managers left the South Shore hotel at Lake Wawasee shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday for South Bend and Notre Dame stadium, where the Cadets met Notre Dame's undefeated gridiron eleven in the feature intersectional contest of the year.

Nov. 14 1922

    The first annual Burket community fair was held Thursday in the community building at Burket and was an all-day affair, concluding in the evening with a musical by the school. The initial fair was largely attended throughout the day and many were turned away at the evening session.
