    YMCA age group Most Valuable Swimmers were honored at last week's winter awards banquet. They are, Evan Mock and D.J. Grindle, 8-and under boys; Laura Lundin, 8-under girls; Mike McCammon, 9-10 boys; Teresa Lundin, 9-10 girls; Alex Wood, 11-12 boys; Sara Cajacob, 11-12 girls; Ty Mann and Nate Mattfeld, 13-14 boys; and Catherine Lundin, 13-14 girls.

    William Landrigan presented the Oliver Bodkin Award to Karen Culp, graduating senior from Sacred Heart parish, during a recent breakfast hosted by the Knights of Columbus. Karen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Culp, Rt. 6, Warsaw.

May 9 1950

    What is believed to be one of the largest, if not the largest, catfish ever caught in the Tippecanoe River is on exhibit at Rochester. The giant blue catfish weighs 16-1/2 pounds.

John Shriner, owner of the Indiana Village Resort, near Rochester, made the catch after a 15-minute battle, using a throw line and a hook baited with nightcrawlers.

    On May 9, 1923, two years ago today, a snow storm hit Warsaw. The ground was covered with 5 inches of snow, and the wind blowing a gale. On May 10 the temperature was still freezing.
