A local police officer received Officer of the Year award this week. Kosciusko officer Jeff Bronsing, a 22-year-veteran, was honored. The award is sponsored by the Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club and is given during Respect for Law week. Officers are chosen for exceptional duty.
Warsaw's new parking patrolwoman (meter maid) has found the job carries with it certain hazards. Donna Johnson, 33, of Pierceton, spent her first day learning the ropes but had to take the next day off to nurse a bad case of foot blisters from all the walking.
Warsaw High School letterman who received awards during the Rotary-Kiwanis-Lions Club banquet at the Masonic Temple talked with Jesse Owens, greatest sprinter and broad jumper in track history, who was the featured speaker. Owens had a lengthy chat following the program with Max Truex, Indiana's best high school miler and state cross-country champion. Award winners are Larry Mulcahy, gold football; Max Truex, gold track shoe; Jack Evans, gold basketball; Ray Heiman, Fisher football award; and Larry Woodling, gold baseball.
Several students of Warsaw High School went to Purdue University where they will attend the annual round-up of the domestic science and agriculture departments. Those who went were Ethelyn Ker, Marguerite Parks, Dorothea Phillips, Edith Silveus, Otha Goshorn, Mary Fairbanks, Ethna Scott, Delores Shaw, the teacher, Miss Kathryn Weaver, and Messrs. Donald Secrist, Leo Valentine, Carey Groninger, Glen Emerick, Arthur Smith and the agriculture instructor, John Barton.
