    BOURBON -ÊTaking a major departure from past practice, the Triton School Board hired an athletic director from outside of the current faculty Tuesday.

Mike Byron, Peru, was hired on a 10-month contract to fulfill the duties of the athletic director.

    When the children run out the door at McKinley Elementary School in June to begin summer vacation, teachers and staff will pack up the books and games, the typewriters and ditto machine, the desks and chairs. Students and all will move to a newly enlarged Lincoln School, and McKinley, nee East Ward, will close its doors forever.

The school was established in 1872 and rebuilt in 1922.

    S/Sgt. Forrest Knepper, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyndon Knepper, Route 4, Warsaw, arrived home from Korea Thursday evening. Forrest came on the USS Gen. William Mitchell and flew from the west coast.

Overseas 10-1/2 months, he was an aviation metalsmith for the 136th Fighter-Bomber Wing and was stationed at Taegu.

    Sheldon Wallace, Pierceton High School track star, won the pole vault at the Greencastle relays last week, clearing the bar at 11 feet 6 inches. He also tied for first in the high jump at 6 feet and took second in the shot put with 43 feet 9 inches. Garland Helfrick, also of Larwill, placed in the 440 and 880.
