    The Lakeland Christian Academy softball squad picked up its first win of the season in grand fashion Friday with a 23-2 rout of Christian Center of South Bend.

Beth James collected the pitching win for the 1-2 Lady Cougars. The LCA junior also led the winners offensively by belting a three-run homer in the victory.

    Ann Lash, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Lash, Mentone, recently received at plaque at the state OEA contest, held in Indianapolis. There were 11 other Tippecanoe Valley students who competed at the state level. Ann's fourth place award was in General Clerical 1.

    A potluck supper honoring the past noble grands of the Rebekah Lodge, Bourbon, was held in the home of Mrs. Harry Briggs. Games were played and prizes were won by Mrs. Lewis Ritzenthaler, Mrs. Wendell Long, Mrs. Charles Davis and Mrs. Kenneth Redman.

    Members of the Mentone basketball team pleasantly surprised their coach, R.O. Goshert, at his home Wednesday evening and reminded him of his 23rd birthday. The evening was spent in playing games, taking part in various contests and visiting. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostess, Mrs. Goshert. Coach Goshert has been retained as coach for another year at Mentone.
