ROCHESTER - A curious freak of nature can be seen by persons who will visit the home of Horace Shelton, where a hen and a cat are both mothering five kittens. The cat gave birth to her kittens in a barrel in the barn at the Shelton home in which the hen had constructed a nest and was attempting to hatch some chickens. The hen was not discovered hiding her nest by Shelton until the cat had given birth to her kittens. Shelton then destroyed the nest. Now the hen in the day time while the mother cat is foraging for food for her young, cares for the kittens and at night the cat remains with her offspring while the hen roosts with the other chickens. Neither the real mother nor the foster mother of the kittens displays any animosity toward the other when they shift the watchers over the kittens in the morning and the evening.
