The Whitko High School band received a superior division rating at the band contest held Saturday at Snider High School, Fort Wayne. The 61-member band performed three prepared pieces and sight-read one selection as part of the contest. More than 35 bands competed in Saturday's contest.
Becky Coplen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melville Coplen, 1909 Robin Drive, is competing in the Indiana Optimist Oratorical contest in Indianapolis. Miss Coplen won her division in the Warsaw contest and also took first place in the zone competition at Elkhart. She is a student at Warsaw Junior High School.
Norma Noggle and Juanita Miller won high valedictorian and salutatorian honors, respectively, among the 14 seniors who will graduate at Leesburg Friday night. Diplomas will be presented by Glen C. Whitehead, county superintendent of schools.
Pouring tar on the new Gresso Road, Silver Lake's main street, began this morning. Crushed stone has been there for a considerable time ready to receive its coat of tar.
