    Kelly Walter and Josh Eikenberry have been named valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of the class of 1994 at Manchester High School.

Walter, the daughter of Kevin and Danna Walter, ranks first in her class of 127. Eikenberry is the son of Joel and Beverly Eikenberry.

    The Golden Shovel, recognizing new construction, was presented to Smith Ford Inc. by Ford Motor Co. representatives recently at the new Smith Ford construction site north of Warsaw on Ind. 15. Attending the presentation was Dave Lanahan, Ford heavy-duty truck merchandising manager, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith, Jack Mendel, Ford district sales manager, and Mr. and Mrs. M.R. Smith.

    Clair Ellis, farmer and milk route driver residing four miles southwest of Akron, assumed his duties as acting postmaster at Akron.

The Rev. D.L. Slaybaugh, who had been postmaster for the past several years, resigned several weeks ago.

    PIERCETON - Marie Barnhouse, Mishawaka, daughter of J.A. Barnhouse, proprietor of Pierceton's shoe repair shop, earned high honors on Saturday at the Muncie state contest in advanced shorthand. She received third place in the shorthand contest, making only one error.
