    The Leesburg Lions recently honored Kenneth Miller as 1990 Leesburg citizen of the year.

Miller, a lifetime area resident, joined Leesburg Lions in 1961. He was president in 1977-78 and became the Lions secretary in 1981, finishing the year for Boggs, who moved away. He has been the secretary since that time.

May 31 1975

    Mark Lacas, 18, Rt. 1, North Webster, was one of 10 students from seven states and Canada who received a General Motors Award for Excellence at the 26th International Science and Engineering Fair held in Oklahoma City, Okla., recently.

Lacas, a senior at Wawasee High School, Syracuse won the award for his study titled, "Systems Monitor."

May 31 1950

    Dale Long, 11, son of Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Long, 774 W. Center St., is one of the youngest and smallest Times-Union carriers in Warsaw. He is four feet, eight inches tall, weighs 77 pounds, and has dark brown hair and blue eyes.

"Longie," as he is know among the other carriers, has been a "little merchant" for five years, starting at the age of 6 as a sub for his brother, Max, now employed in the Times-Union mailing department.

    Vere Sutherlin, Warsaw High School half-miler, took fourth place in the state track and field meet at Indianapolis. His event went in the time of 2:06. Homer Ring was third in his trial heat for the 100-yard dash, which went in 10:03. Elson Helwig finished third in his trial heat in the hurdles.
