    Kenneth Boyer, Burket, found a large mushroom last week. The oversized morel weighed almost a half pound and measured 4 inches across and about 9-1/2 inches tall. Boyer said the mushroom was found in almost the exact same place as one five years ago that was almost as large. The location remains a secret.

    Local golfer Jerry Nelson won the 1976 "Tournament of Champions" at the Fox Prairie Golf Course in Noblesville over the weekend.

Nelson, who won both Rozella Ford and Tippecanoe Lake club championships last season, fired rounds of 76-73 for a total of 149 and beat the field by four strokes.

    Jane Foresman, 15-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Foresman, of North Union Street, won the freshman spelling championship in a spelldown over WRSW Tuesday evening. She could not be caught on any of the words given to her after her four opponents went down in the match.

    Winifred Anglin delightfully entertained on Tuesday evening at a bridge party. Following a delightful evening at card playing, the guests enjoyed delicious refreshments. The guests of the evening were Eleanor Nye, Violet Brallier and Beatrice Clark.
