    Amy Swihart, fifth-grade teacher at Akron School, finished as a runner-up for the Indiana DARE Educator of the Year award.

The award is sponsored by the Indiana Drug Abuse Resistance Education Officers Association. Swihart was nominated for the award by DARE instructor Tony Ciriello of the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Dept.

May 23 1980

    The Lincoln School fourth-grade class of Marilyn Phillips obtained a new flag for their school gym by writing to State Senator John Augsburger, and he delivered it personally last week. The flag, which has been flown over the state capital building, was presented to Ed Kim, Andrea Halpin and Jane Bolinger by Sen. Augsburger.

    Agnes Pederson was honored by employees of the Free Methodist Publishing House, Winona Lake, on the occasion of her retirement after more than 25 years of service to the publishing house. The employees of the publishing house presented Pederson with a silver coffee service.

    Mary Jane McKown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred McKown, who is a pupil of Violet Reinwald, instructor of the school of dancing in Fort Wayne, will appear in a dance review given by Reinwald at the Shrine Temple this evening. She will appear on the program in "The Dance of the Jungle." Mr. and Mrs. Fred McKown and Mr. and Mrs. Joe McKown, of Warsaw, and Mrs. L.D. Underhill, of Silver Lake, will attend.
