    NORTH MANCHESTER - Local students in Manchester College's chapter of Phi Beta Lambda took top honors in competitive events at the state leadership awards in April.

Shelly Manuel, a junior from Warsaw, was on the first-place team in business decision-making; Brandon Hepler, a senior from Bourbon, place third in business law; Jeffrey Eckert, a senior from North Manchester, was first in economics and in marketing; and Kerry Bathrick, a sophomore from Rochester, was second in economics and first in management.

    INDIANAPOLIS - Douglas Hoffer of Warsaw, an executive at Creighton Brothers, has been appointed by Gov. Otis Bowen to the Indiana Egg Board for three years. He replaces Bennett Adan of Jasper.

    The Mermaid Festival queen committee announced at North Webster the entries of Suzette Ann Graf, as "Miss South Whitley"; Betty Bowser, as "Miss Leesburg"; Marylin Lou Smith, as "Miss Pierceton"; and Sue Ann Sanxter, as "Miss Hamilton." The four were selected to enter the

Queen of the Lakes" contest at North Webster, by their classmates.

    Mrs. Ed Poulson, Warsaw, was accorded the honor of acting as grand manager of the 20th annual District No. 1 Pythian convention held at LaPorte. Mrs. Robert Breading, Warsaw, served on the resolutions committee and Mrs. Talitha Elder was official representative from Chapter No. 1, the Warsaw chapter.
