    MENTONE - Tippecanoe Valley High School guidance counselor George Welch is calling an end to his 45-year career in education.

Welch was recognized at a banquet Monday honoring Valley educators.

    Joe Wilson, of the U.S. Soil Conservation Service, Warsaw, was recently honored by State Conservationist Cletus J. Gillman "for his outstanding contributions to the conservation programs in Indiana."

He has served as district conservationist in charge of the Warsaw field office since October 1969. Before that, he served at Vevay, Princeton and Rockport, beginning his career with the SCS in July 1949.

    Joe Kintzel, teacher at Madison Township in St. Joseph County, and Nelson Cook, a teacher at Bourbon, attended the farm machinery adjustment and repair school held at Purdue University.

They were among 20 vocational agriculture teachers who were selected from the 400 teachers in the state to attend the school.

    Vera Heeter, graduate of the Warsaw High School with the class of 1921, will receive a bachelor of arts degree at the Manchester College commencement May 27. Heeter took extensive work in the expression department and majored in English and history.
