    Warsaw's Jay Hicks set a Northern Lakes Conference meet record in the 1,600-meter run Friday night as he crossed the finish line with a time of 4:16.42. The record up to that point had been 4:19.7 set in 1979.

May 22 1975

    Sister Nora Rose, 62, of Rt. 2, Claypool, was crowned Mother of the Year at the annual Mother-Daughter Banquet at the Packerton Free Will Baptist Church. The crown was placed on her head by sister Dora Bays, the 1974 Mother of the Year.

Sister Rose and her husband, Deacon Leander Rose, have been members of the Free Will Baptist Church for 37 years.

May 22 1950

    Arrangements were made for the Oklahoma Cowboys, one of the world's greatest softball teams, to play an exhibition game in Warsaw on June 26. The Cowboys are from Inid, Okla.

The game was arranged in a telephone conversation between Carl Bennett, athletic director and manager of the famed Fort Wayne Zollner Postons, and Gabby Garber, Times-Union sports editor, and McCrea Rea, Warsaw Athletic Association president.
