May 19 1990

    Three area horse and pony 4-H'ers received honors recently at the 1990 Hoosier Horse Fair in Indianapolis.

Placing second in the senior judging contest was Kelly Easter, Triton FFA. In the versatility class, Heather Highway was first place in the senior division. In proper tack and fitting contest, Loretta Schafer placed third in the senior division.

    Clayton J. Smith, principal at Warsaw Community High School, announced the valedictorian and salutatorian of the 1975 graduating class.

The valedictorian will be Burton Ramsey, son of Allan Ramsey, 827 S. Union St., Warsaw, and the salutatorian is Stephen Long, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Long, 105 Fourth St., Winona Lake.

May 19 1950

    Syracuse looked like the "magnolia city" envisioned by the town's Chamber of Commerce many years ago when it sponsored a tree-planting campaign and brought in the magnolia seedlings by the hundreds. They died by the hundreds, too, but still, sprinkled over town are the mature trees, now blooming in almost every yard. Along one street we counted a half a hundred of them.

    "Julie," prize chicken in the Rhode Island Red flock of Mrs. Ithel Smith, residing southwest of Mentone, presented her owner with a monogram egg, on one end of which is a perfect Spencerian capital "J," surrounded by a wreath three-fourths of an inch in diameter.
