May 19 1996

    Lakeview Middle School eighth-grader Jessica Wadkins made quite a stir at the school's spring concert earlier this month.

Her unplugged rendition of "Zombie" by the Cranberries received the concert's loudest round of applause after proving she was worthy of imitating the signature slur of the Cranberries' Irish front lady, Delores O'Riordan.

May 19 1981

    Warsaw Fire Chief Tom Burns presented a watch to Fireman Dean Breske, who will retire from the city firefighting force May 21 with a medical disability. Breske has been a fireman a total of 17 years. During the past 14 years, he has been a paid fireman and prior to that, he was a volunteer fireman for three years. He was a fireman in the U.S. Navy for four years while he was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan.

May 19 1956

    Mitchell D. Leavell, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Leavell, Rochester, recently was promoted to specialist third class while serving with the 10th infantry division in Germany.

Specialist Leavell is a photographer with the division's 10th signal company.

May 19 1931

    A mushroom weighing three-fourths of a pound and measuring almost 8 inches in length was captured by James Alford. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gray verify the weight of the big fungus.
