    WEST LAFAYETTE - Cathy Gardner of Tippecanoe recently was activated into the Beta chapter of Sigma Alpha sorority at Purdue University.

Gardner, the daughter of James Gardner of Tippecanoe, is a freshman majoring in agricultural education.

    Donald Congdon, a fifth grader at Madison School, received a second-place award (out of 50 projects) with his science fair project titled "Fermentation And Extraction of Semi-Pure Alcohol" at the recent Northeastern Indiana Regional Science Fair in Fort Wayne. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Congdon, Warsaw.

    Sonja Sue Huffer has been entered as "Miss Beaver Dam" in the Queen of the Lakes beauty contest which will be a feature of the North Webster Mermaid Festival. A student at Beaver Dam High School, Huffer is the daughter of Mrs. Eva R. Huffer, Claypool. She is 17 years of age, weighs 126 pounds, stands 5 feet, 6 inches tall and has brown hair and eyes.

May 18 1930

    J.E. Beyer, of Winona Lake, will leave for New York City and there on May 23 will take passage on the Carmania for Havre, France. After a brief stay in Paris Beyer, he will go on to Germany and visit his birthplace and old home. There he expects to visit with an elder brother, now in his 81st year, expecting to return to Winona in August.
