    INDIANAPOLIS - Warsaw's Gene Butts was named the IHSSA Umpire Of The Year at the winter meeting of the Indiana Baseball High School Coaches Association.

Butts, a former teacher and athletic director at Warsaw high School, has worked 26 years in the IHSAA baseball tournament and worked the state finals six times.

    The recipients of the top WCHS choral awards, presented at the final concert, were Brian Stichter, winner of the Kiwanis Choral Award, and Lesa Brubaker, who received the G.F. Phillips Cecilian Award.

    Susan Darr, Syracuse High School senior, who was first place winner in the essay contest sponsored at Syracuse by the American Legion Auxiliary, has been named winner of the second district essay contest, girl's division.

Darr's essay was on "Justice for All."

    The Warsaw American Legion Post has passed the 300 mark, which is the largest membership roll in the history of the John C. Peterson Post.
