    Some people slow down as they age. Others, like one Kosciusko County man, get faster and stronger, and never lose their competitive spirit.

Dick Lehman, a 57-year-old avid bicyclist, is gearing up for some serious competition at the fourth biennial National Senior Olympics. This June, Lehman will join about 7,000 other athletes age 55 and older at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge as they compete in 18 different sports.

    Junior bowlers from Warsaw fared quite well at the state tournament in Merrillville last weekend and now must sit back to see what the competition can come up with.

Both the Class A doubles team of Rich Barker and Mike Brown and the Class B squad of Barker, Brown, Mark Pozorski, Kim Lippley and Roger Heyde are currently in first place.

    First entries in the 1953 "Queen of the Lakes" beauty contest, to be staged during the ninth annual Mermaid Festival in North Webster June 23-27, were announced today by officials of the North Webster Lions Club, sponsor of the popular lake region event.

Those entered are Peggie Ann Smith, Rome City, who will compete as "Miss Wawaka"; Patty Oldfather, as "Miss Etna Green"; Marlene Marie Bouse, as "Miss Silver Lake"; and Esther Mae Kuhn, as "Miss Richland Center."
