Three area residents reported finding nice messes of sponge mushrooms this week. Bill Smith, Warsaw, said he found two dozen of the tasty morels south of town. The biggest one was 7 inches around and 6-1/2 inches tall. John Church, Chapman Lake Drive, found an 8-inch sponge on the south side of Chapman Lake. Roger Shepherd, Warsaw, and a friend, Ed Fisher, Nappanee, found about 50 large sponges between Pierceton and North Webster.
Janet Zielasko, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Zielasko, will represent the Indiana district of Grace Brethren Churches in national fellowship competition for SMM Girl of the Year to be held in conjunction with National Youth Conference in August. Selected from a field of contestants from the entire state, she will be competing in the realm of achievement and personal testimony.
Cpl. James H. Zeller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Zeller, Rochester, recently completed a training course in use and maintenance of mechanical construction equipment at the army's engineer school in Murnau, Germany. He is now an equipment supervisor with the 469th engineer aviation battalion at Bordeaux, France.
Alice Woodling and Marie Diehl composed the demonstration team from Warsaw, which won second honors among 13 competing teams at the boys' and girls' round up at Purdue University last week. They demonstrated preparation and uses of salads.
