    SYRACUSE - Wawasee Middle School took top honors at the Academic Super Bowl junior division finals Saturday at Elkhart North Side Middle School.

The Wawasee's team's final combined score was 15, a full five points ahead of the next closest competitor, Mishawaka Grissom Middle School.

    Dale Skinner, Warsaw, reeled in a 11-foot 364-pound Pacific Blue Marlin while he and his wife, Darlene, were on vacation in Hawaii. The boat was the Malia out of Maalaea Harbor on the Kihell Coast of Maui, and the captain was Paul MacLaughlin.

    The Rev. A.Z. Fryberger, of Warsaw, and the Rev. Dr. A.H. Arbaugh, pastor of the Syracuse-Nappanee Lutheran parish, will go to Auburn Monday. They will attend the sessions of the ninth annual convention of the Michigan synod of the United Lutheran Church in America. They will be accompanied by Vernon Beckman, of Syracuse, who will represent the local parish as a lay-delegate at the convention.
